What Should the Threatened City Populations of the World Do?

Continue to rely exclusively on their national governments to do what they have been doing for 70 years since Hiroshima and Nagasaki - arm to the teeth, form alliances, keep the arms trade going, hunt down as many terrorists as possible, cross their fingers.

I Disagree.

We should...

  • Collaborate across national borders to pressure the nations to move from their war system to a peace system.
  • Accept a 50 year assignment to reorganize the concept and mechanics of security.
  • Identify the elements of enforced law that must overrule national sovereignty:
    • arms control, prohibitions on human
      and resource exploitation, an administrative,
      judicial, and enforcement apparatus, and
cross border democracy to keep the apparatus
      accountable and therefore feasible.
  • Experiment with using the municipal ballot to advance cross border democracy.
  • Recognize that national elected officials are constrained from thinking far enough ahead and from championing and experimenting with drastic changes by the imperatives of responding to the interests that facilitated their elections and the need to get reelected.
  • Recognize that the only readily obtainable source of the power to change things is city and town politics.
